Oriental Cloisonne from 1920 to1950 and Beyond
This is the last section I
am identifying Oriental cloisonne pieces for you, yet it might be the most useful, since the vast majority of vintage
Oriental cloisonne items you have or are for sale will be found here. After the 1950's, cloisonne became very predictable, with fewer styles and many items being
completely machine made by both China and Japan, and produced in bulk for the ever increasing Western Export Market (USA). Exceptionally, some Chinese cloisonne
motifs became completely geared to Western tastes with 50s Eames era styles, geometric renditions, never seen before or since. Japan on the other hand had only a few companies still marketing their wares after 1930; ANDO,
INABA and Tamura, to name the most well known. Several new Japanese cloisonne companies were created after 1955. These produced
gift-ware and cloisonne decorative wares. SATO, HINODE, TUTANKA, are a few names you might recognize. In this year 2010, brand new real
cloisonne pieces are rare. Only a couple of manufacturers remain in the Far-East today. The prices for new decorative cloisonne
items can approximate the value of some of the good vintage and antique pieces.
